IRRITANT OR STIMULANT LAXATIVES - ORAL

USES:  Irritant or stimulant laxatives are used to treat constipation and to clear the intestine bfeore rectal or bowel examinations.  

HOW TO USE:  Take each dose with a full glass of water or juice and drink plenty of fluids whlie taking this medication.  <br/>Cheawble tablets are to be chewed thoroughly.   Tabltes are to be swallowed whole with a full glass of water. <br/>Wafers are to be chewed. Laxatives should not be used in persons experiencing stomach cramps, nausea or vomiting. <br/><br/>

SIDE EFFECTS:  This medication may cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, recatl irritation, stomach cramps or bloating.  If these effects cnotinue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience: rectal bleeding, rpaid heart rate, weakness, dizziness, fainting, sweating, skin rash, unrelieved constipation.  This medication may cause the urine to turn pink, red or brownish in color.  <br/>Do not be alarmed.  It is not harmful. <br/>Prolonged, frequent or excessive use of laxatives may lead to depednency.  If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.  

PRECAUTIONS:  Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, swelling (edema), any allergies (especially to tartrazine). <br/>Castor oil is not recommneded for use during pregnancy.  Bulk producing laxatives are an alternative.  <br/><br/>Discuss the risks and beneftis with your doctor.  Consult your doctor before using any medication while breast-feeding. <br/>

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Because laxatievs may interfere with the absorption of some medications, it is important to tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take.  Avoid the use of dairy products or antacids within one hour of taking bisacoydl tablets. <br/>Do not start or stop any medicine witohut doctor or pharmacist approval.  

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your lcoal poison control center or emergency room immediately.  <br/>Smyptoms of overdose may include severe diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, muscle cramps, weakness, lack of feeling alert, or dry gums and eyes.  

NOTES:  To maintain normal bowel habits, it is important to drink plenty of fluids (4 to 6 eight ounce glasses a day), increase your intake of fiber and rougahge and exercise regularly.  <br/><br/>

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedlue. <br/>Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.  

STORAGE:  Different brands of this medictaion may have different storage requirements.  Refer to the pcakage labeling or ask your pharmacist for the specific storage requirements for the brand you are using.]]></description>
